Last weekend was the International Coastal Clean-Up Day and I was down at Kalk Bay harbour with around 70 divers to help clean up the harbour in an event organised by OMSAC…. and a huge pile of rubbish was removed from the water! The visibility was sometimes down to 30cm and we had to feel our way around but the day was enjoyed by all and was a huge success. The organisation of the event was excellent: from the registration to transporting kit down to the harbour from the parking area, to the food and drink supplied for free to the volunteers, the medics on standby, basically everything went like clockwork. I am looking forward to next year’s event, which is hopefully going to be off Robben Island for the second time. Keep in touch with OMSAC on Facebook or at omsac.co.za for news on this and other events the club is involved in.
We launched yesterday to Smits followed by Partridge Point and the viz was between 7m and 10m and a lovely sunny day out. This afternoon we have a bit of a NW followed by some showers but this disappears by tomorrow morning and then the rest of the weekend should be good. Carel is busy with Wreck and Deep training, in case you are wondering at our choice of sites for the launches!
We have an “Early-Bird” Special on offer for Red Sea 2013! Book and pay R2500 deposit for the trip before the end of October and get R1000 off the trip price! Give me a shout for details.
Our roof has now finally been power-washed, waterproofed and will be painted by the weekend. Our staircase to the mezzanine will be installed early next week and we will start with the exterior painting next week, as well as the interior walls around the toilets and change-rooms.
