Dolphins in False Bay -

Pisces News: 20th February 2015

Here we go again! The wind has cranked back to 20 knots plus and there is a very nasty long period Southerly swell making the Bay a mess. Due to the swell size and period, the Atlantic should not be any better, so I think it’s going to be a dry weekend. Carel will be braving Long Beach with some students, but that’s about it.

We had very nice conditions on Wednesday and we did an impromptu launch yesterday, where conditions had deteriorated down to 3-4m visibility and 14 degree water (down from 19 degrees the day before!) But we did have a nice event after the dive – a huge pod of common dolphins on the move with an entourage of gannets and cormorants and even a Brydes whale in the mix! We followed the action for twenty minutes as the pod moved towards the mouth of the Bay.
