Pisces Divers has been in operation since 2002 and is proud to be recognised as a PADI Career Development Dive centre. We are one of the top PADI certifiers in South Africa and have been running Instructor Development Courses for over twelve years. We are also a PADI Freediver Centre and can arrange Freediving Instructor Courses in addition to IDC’s. As a busy dive centre and dive charter, our career development candidates learn many of the additional skills associated with being a successful dive instructor: compressor operator and gas blender, service technician courses, skipper training to name a few. The IDC is the culmination of our career development programme and in addition to our own candidates, we also welcome PADI Divemasters, PADI Assistant Instructors and Instructors from other dive agencies to join our IDC programmes.
Our career development program focuses on developing the candidates from the very beginning to follow safe and role model dive practices grooming them for leadership levels of training.
The internship can be adjusted to suit the individual candidate as they grow throughout the program. The program itself should be seen not only as an internship but as a long term commitment towards a goal that will provide each candidate with a set of skills that will not only benefit them in the scuba diving industry, but in any field that they may pursue . The skills learnt develop leadership qualities, a keen sense of management and problem solving. All the time while working towards earning a qualification that can be used worldwide to gain employment and travel.
The Career development program is broken into several Phases. At the end of each phase there is an evaluation process through which we will reassess the progress the candidate is making and the best way forward for them as the progress into the next phase.
The career development program is broken up as follows.
FUNDAMENTALS
1-2 MONTHS
- Open water
- Advanced open water and Nitrox
- EFR, Rescue and O2 provider
MASTER SCUBA DIVER
2 Months
- Deep diver
- Navigation
- Compressor operator
- Build up dives to 40 dives (excludes equipment)
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
2-3 Months
- Dive Master course
PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE
2 Months
- Dive master experience phase
- DSD leader (Includes registration)
- Assistance in finding Dive master work
- Letter of recommendation
- Boat dives
- Shore dives
- Work experience
- Build up boat hours
